Care Tips

Caring your Laptop

Maintain Up-to-Date Anti-Virus

Please ensure you have anti-virus installed and frequently update your anti-virus definitions. If you don't have anti-virus then you may like to download AVAST Anti-Virus for free at www.avast.com. Software is your responsibility (not covered by warranty) so this can save you a lot of time and money.

Be Careful with the Ports.

Ensure you plug attachments in correctly (if you're not sure then look at the pins and match them up carefully). Forcing them in the wrong way will bend the pins and cause the port to stop working (and possibly the whole machine to stop working as it can short the circuitry) and this is not covered by warranty.

Be Be Gentle.

Have you noticed that your mobile phones last longer when you don't throw them around? The same applies to laptops. If your laptop is being used by a student, please regularly remind them (or yourself as the case may be) not to throw them onto the 'pile of laptops' at school as the rest of the students do.

Drink Well Away from your Laptop.

It's all too common for customers to spill drink in their laptop (we can ALWAYS tell). This almost always destroys the motherboard and unfortunately the cost of replacing it is often close to the cost of replacing the whole machine. We recommend keeping drinks well away from your laptop. If you do have an accident, then immediately turn the laptop off, take the battery out, leave the laptop open and facing keyboard-down and CALL US (do not try turning your laptop on as you will fry the motherboard). The quicker you do all this then the better chance you have of saving your laptop. Please be honest as it will save time and money.

Keep your Laptop Secure.

While we do get a lot of repeat business this way, we still don't like hearing your laptop has been stolen. Leaving your laptop in your car is particularly risky. Be careful.

Be Honest.

We will always find the cause of a problem, but if you know what has caused your machine to fail, be it physical or software related, please be upfront and honest as it can save hours in labour time and cost.
